RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is a process which formally recognises what you already know or can do and could provide you with a full or part qualification which avoids duplication of training.
This knowledge and skills may have been the result of:
- Formal training programs (e.g. school, TAFE or other training bodies)
- Life experience (e.g. community involvement, hobbies)
- Work experience (e.g. training, on-the-job experience)
Current competence or prior learning is measured against the learning outcomes/competencies for a particular module/qualification. If this requirement has already been met, then that particular module or unit of competence may not be required to be undertaken.
Evidence for RPL may include:
- Interview/professional conversation
- Observation and questioning including workplace visits
- Portfolio of work, which may include completed assessment items from previous study
- Reference/ Letters of support – Work/Social
- Evidence of committee work
- Demonstration of skill
- Record of academic results
- Referee/industry representatives
